Intelligent RAM stands for IRAM. Intelligent RAM combines processor and memory into a single chip to regulate the lower memory latency and enlarge bandwidth. Intelligent RAM reduces energy utilization in the memory system due to the decrease of off-chip accesses. The Intelligent RAM method can be combined with most processor organizations. The aim of Intelligent RAM is to intend a cost-effective computer by designing a processor in a memory manufacture process, instead of in a standard logic fabrication process, and contain memory on-chip.
IRAM will have many smaller amounts of external memory accesses, which use a great deal of energy to make high-capacitance off-chip buses. An IRAM has the potential for higher performance than a usual method. The main advantage of IRAM is over conventional designs is the capability to regulate both the size and width of the on-chip DRAM. The flexibility available in IRAM will improve the cost of IRAM solutions.
