Net books, the smaller version of lap tops, were launched in June 2008. Now, on the similar lines, PC market like ASUS, HCL Info systems and Wipro are ready to push the retail sales of smaller desktops or net tops, based on Intel atom processors. Others like Dell, HP and Lenovo are expected to follow the suit.
The system will cost around Rs 6000 to assemble. However, the retail price ranges between Rs 11,000 and Rs 18,000 since; the manufacturers include a bulky CRT or thin LCD monitor and optional CD/DVD drives. Aimed primarily at e-mail and Internet users, net tops and note books provide a low-cost option for education, photo and video over IP, e-mail, messaging, browsing and other basic activities as well as for basic applications. “They are not suitable for high-end gaming but any way, that is not the purpose,”
