NAS is defined as Network-attached storage. Network-attached storage is fundamentally controlled common storage that is right to use over the local area network. Network Attached Storage is less expensive to purchase and less compound to operate than a Storage Area Network. The protocol used with NAS is a file based protocol like Network File System. NAS permits more hard disk storage space to be added to a network that previously uses servers without shutting them down for preservation and upgrades.

As the data’s are naturally stored in raid arrays inside the corporate LAN the Network attached storage allows very fast access speeds to storage. As the multiple hard disks are stored within the LAN itself Network attached storage involves low cost for rational storage. The installation procedure of Network attached storage is very easy. These NAS devices do not need any monitor, keyboard or mouse. They usually run an embedded operating system rather than a full-featured NOS.
